Getting Started With Crafting
Buy your Key

To get started with the Crafting system you need to talk with Wilfred Wizzbang in the Clerk's Ward. Upon an investment of gold, he will give you a magical key that acts as an Extradimensional Warehouse. This is how you hold crafting materials and everything.
You can see its contents and existing materials by using the following Warehouse Commands:
- /warehouse wood
- /warehouse metal
- /warehouse leather
- /warehouse gems
- /warehouse misc
Materials can be boxed into items and traded to other players via the /trade command. Likewise, gathering & crafting skill levels may be checked through the /Craftskills command
Harvesting Resources
Now it is time to go get resources through one of two methods: Hunting and Gathering.
- Hunting is the process where you will kill an enemy and they will drop a resource. Beast Pelts, Dragon Scales, Minotaur Horns, etc. This is how you normally get Leather or similar parts of creatures. It should be noted however there are some creatures that will drop things that can be used as metals or woods when they are slain.
- Gathering is the process where you will go out into the World and find Resource Nodes: Trees, Ores, Herbs.
- While collecting these nodes you will get amounts of Raw Resources based on the type and location of the node. Locations matters as it helps determine what could be in the Resource Node, for example you will not find Axiomatic (Lawful) Iron in Limbo (A Plane of Chaos) or Baatorian Greensteel outside of Baator!
- The materials you get will be proportional to your relevant "gathering/hunting skill" as well as a random chance equal to your relevant skill that will double your yield or you find a rather rare material.
- A given Gathering skill will increase at random intervals whenever materials are gathered
Refining
Once you have gathered your raw resources, you need to refine them!
- The easiest way you do this is by going to the Refiner in the Great Bazaar in Sigil's Market Ward. A swift conversation with the Dwarf that runs it and a one-time fee will grant you permission to use it. Alternatively, some player housing may include a refinery that can be used freely by anybody!
- Once you have access to a refinery, all you need to do is activate it and process Raw Materials in sets of 100, 250, 500 and 1000 as per the conversation prompt! (Note exact numbers will not process ie; you cannot process 250 iron if you only possess 250 raw iron.)
- You will get a ratio of Low, Average and High Quality processed materials as you process your Raw Materials. This will be proportional to your "Refining Skill", which gains xp for every individual ore processed. Don't bother going for 100's if a thousand is available, it's all the same!
Finding a Crafting Station
To actually craft you will need to find one of several crafting stations in the game world:
- Tradegate holds a small dwarven group who allow perspective Weapon-smiths to use their station for a small fee, and scoffs when they make a piking blade out of wood.
- Sigil's Clerks Ward has a tailoring shop who lets perspective tailors try their hand at spinning if they have the coin to front the rent.
- Hillard's Bay has an Armory run by a gruff dwarf open to any bod who treats it with care and a few coins for the time.
- Glorium has a leather-worker who's more than happy to allow Planewalkers to use his station to turn their trophies into useful tools. For a small sum, of course.
- Tradegate's Tower of Mysticism (The biggest wizard's tower, they say) has all the tools for a perspective enchanter to play with, so long as the great Tabor is present and paid for his space.
- Tradegate's Tower of Mysticism also holds a strange, arcane machine that can rend any enchanted item into it's most basic material: Arcane Dust.
- Some houses have stations usable by anybody, share with your friends!
- Player-owned shops have crafting stations of a single craft, chosen when first renting the shop.
Crafting
Once a crafting station has been found you can select Primary, Secondary, and Embellishment Materials via prompts, finalizing via the 'Finalize Craft' section to choose what form your end result comes in!
- It costs 250 processed material's of a specific material quality to be able to use that material in a craft. (Note: You cannot use a material with exactly 250 held.)
- You will also need an amount of Arcane Dust and Gold per craft. Crafts require 50 dust and gold based upon the "points" of the end product.
- Enchanting crafts including Runic Etchings or Gem Slots will require more dust than standard
- The Amount of max "Points" One can place upon a single crafted item is equal to: Your Crafting Skill +20 or 50, whichever one is higher. Each craft will grant xp equal to it's ending point value.
- All crafted items will give their point value in Arcane Dust back when transmogrified in Tradegate's Tower of Mysticism.
- Only 2 crafts may be risen above level 30 per character. To choose which two are specialized, speak with the respective trainer when level 30 has been reached and pay a small fee.
Leveling Crafts
- Leveling a craft is accomplished through XP gained per craft, scaling with the point value of each crafted item. YOU DO NOT NEED TO ALLOCATE POINTS IN A CRAFT TO LEVEL IT!
- Only 2 crafts may be risen above level 30 per character. To choose which two are specialized, speak with the respective trainer when level 30 has been reached and pay a small fee.
- These crafts, once trained, may be raised to a maximum level of 100, affording a maximum point value of 120!
Types of Crafted Items by Craft
Crafters can make many different items, but they're still separated by what they can make.
- Enchanters make amulets, rings and gems.
- Leatherworkers make 4 and 5 AC armors, boots, bracers, and belts.
- Tailors make 0 to 3 AC armors and cloaks.
- Armorsmiths make 6 to 8 AC armors, helmets and shields.
- Weaponsmiths make weapons, monk gloves, and staves.
- All crafters can make rune equipment.
Level Requirements by Crafted Item
The character level requirement of a crafted item depends on an item property threshold, if an item reaches a threshold in a single stat, it automatically requires the character level for that threshold.
The item properties that are measured are Armor Class, Enchantment Bonus, Ability Score Increase and Regeneration.
- Below +3 requires level 10.
- At +3, it requires level 15.
- At +4, it requires level 20.
- Criteria include damage bonuses from Unobtainium upgrades to +4.
- At +5 EB or AC, then it requires level 23.
- These bonuses can only be gained from Masterwork Crafting.
- This category requires epic levels, for more information on epic levels, see Epic Characters.
Advanced Crafting
A master crafter can make many things one would normally not find in the regular SPL loot pool, at a steep price with lots of work and effort. Both of these methods can be combined.
Masterwork Crafts
- At craft skill level 100, a Crafter can become a Master Crafter by spending a five millions of jink when speaking to one of the training NPCs.
- This allows them to Masterwork items. This choice upgrades a +4 EB/AC item to a +5 EB/AC item.
- This raises the price of an item significantly, increasing the price to several millions of coin (approximately 7.3 million if you're making a 120 point item with Masterwork).
- The point cost of making a +4 item is 40 points but without any materials used (upgraded at the Final Product stage), meaning a Crafter has 80 points and the primary, secondary and tertiary material available.
- This does nothing if you do not have +4 EB/AC on the item, meaning it will waste your gold and you will need to contact a DM to refund you, so be careful.
- Crafted items with +5 AC/EB have a level requirement of 23.
Unobtainium Crafting
- Unobtainium is a very rare item gotten as one of the Writ Rewards for 200 writ marks. It improves the bonuses on crafted items which are on their highest possible cap, raising their potential even further.
- As an example, most crafting bonuses are limited to +4 unless stated otherwise, and all crafted weapons are limited to +3 flat bonus damage. This raises the limit further to +4.
- It will not, however, raise +2 to +3.
- How much a stat is raised depends on the stat itself. (The list is not exhaustive.)
- Damage: +3 → +4;
- Dice Based Damage: d8 → d10
- Ability Scores: +4 → +5
- Regeneration: +4 → +5
- Vampiric Regen: +6 → +8
- Saves: +4 → +5
Runes & Gems
These two craft types greatly differ from the usual gear found in Neverwinter Nights. For more information, read their pages.
