Bears a Heartsung weapon; the battleaxe Audax |
Rarlee is a kobold Divine Champion of Bahamut. A proud member of the Sign of One, and one of the founding members of the Company of the Unbroken Wheel (The Unbroken).
She bears the Heartsung battleaxe Audax.
She is the bondmate of Fadra D'Rethi
Description
At the start of her journey, Rarlee would have looked like any other red-scaled kobold. However, since the fated day she found herself in Sigil she has grown into a fierce warrior. Where most of her kin would be thin and scrawny, Rarlee is built and toned. She does not shy away from showcasing her physical strength, and the golden plate she wears is fitted in such a way that keeps her protected but also allows for swift movement in battle. She wears the majority of her scars with pride, however on her wrists and ankles are worn patches of scale and skin that would indicate a significant portion of time in chains. She wears cloth wraps over these sections, and though she’s been offered healing for them in the past, she has stated she is not ready to rid herself of them yet.
Another notable difference is her entire left arm is scorched to a black charcoal. The ashy texture of the scales remains, however they are just as strong and healthy as the rest of her body. Her black arm is a badge of honor, as it is a sign of her strength of will when she reached into the fire god Kossuth’s realm and took a piece of Pure Fire. Now that she has been gifted divine powers, she uses her black arm to deliver the healing she can provide.
Her armor of gold plate is decorated with shades of dark red, and she often wears a Greater Cloak of Flame Bath that was gifted to her by a friend. Upon this cloak is pinned a broach that at first glance seems to be a gold and silver icon of Bahamut, but on close inspection the symbol of Tyr is included behind Bahamut’s visage. She also wears a badge to mark her as a Namer in the Sign of One, which she keeps polished and pinned to her belt.
Rarlee stands with a proud air about her, though it is often overshadowed by her natural energy and excitement. She is quick to make her thoughts known even when it can be to her social detriment. She is stalwart in her beliefs, and while she is open and tolerant of many ideas - she will not back down easily when her own are challenged. She has a fiery spirit, and while she may come off at first as innocent and childish, there is a keen mind that has become quite capable of reading into people and their reactions when it is of interest to her.
History
There are many hidden mines within the Sunset Mountains in Faerun. These mines are controlled entirely by the Cult of the Dragon for the purposes of mining out gems and precious metals to be used in their ritual casting. Kobold slaves are the manpower within, and have been for countless years. Rarlee was born here, and from the moment she was big enough to hold a pickaxe she'd been in chains. She spent the first 10 years of her life living in servitude.
What she learned was not done so easily, her kin would leave hastily scratches messages for each other in Draconic on the cave walls. She learned common, gradually by listening to her handlers speak to one another. Every day was a fight to survive, and she saw many of her fellow Kobolds beaten to death for often no reason other than the boredom of their wardens.
Eventually, after seeing another one of her kin felled and their broken and bloodied body continued to be savaged... Rarlee snapped. When her mind returned, she was standing over the body of one of her handlers. They were torn apart, ripped and shredded. Rarlee herself was covered in their blood, and her maw dripped with crimson. She fled - knowing she'd be killed if she didn't at least try. The commotion of finding one of their own dead seemed to have distracted most of the wardens, and Rarlee soon found herself at the mouth of the cave.
About to step out of the only place she'd ever known - a place of nightmares and pain that had filled her with such rage. She looked up at the sky as she felt grass beneath her clawed feet for the first time, and she saw the moon and stars. It was beautiful, and even though her heart still pounded, she felt peace. Short lived, however. Distracted by the twinkling lights in the sky, she had not seen the curling tree root that she tripped over. Instead of landing on grass however, when she lifted herself up she found herself in the middle of a dark and musty alleyway.
Oath
While not a paladin, Rarlee has a grand respect for those who have taken such Oaths. As part of the vigil she organized for a fallen paladin of Tyr, Rarlee wrote and took her own Oath.
- I swear under the eyes of Tyr, and the guidance of Bahamut that I Rarlee pledge myself to performing Just deeds to the best of my capabilities. I shall trust my instincts and my heart to guide me in doing what is good - and fight against the fear that would try to sway this path. With my hands, head, and heart I commit myself to this Oath
Relationships
Fadra, Bondmate
- Rarlee met Fadra within her first few hours of being in Sigil, and meeting of fate has had a significant impact on Rarlee's character as a whole. Rarlee had been entranced by the dance of the various colorful Ioun stones that many of those in the Fulcrum wore. Fadra saw this simple joy from the kobold, and gifted her one. This was the first act of kindness that Rarlee had ever experienced, and it shaped a great part of her path going forward. Looking up to Fadra for some time, Rarlee often found herself asking for her thoughts and advice. She had Fadra aid her in writing her Oath, and organizing the small vigil for the fallen paladin of Tyr. They fought together against many threats early on in Rarlee's adventures, and became close friends. Rarlee eventually found herself developing feelings for the drowess, though she was unable to place exactly what they were. After speaking to another trusted friend - Barxire - he directed Rarlee to speak to the Paladin of Love of her questions. Rarlee hid her intentions well throughout that conversation, and it wasn't until after several more events occurred that they were put into a room together and Rarlee admitted her truth. Since that night, the two have become a fearsome pairing and aiding in the other's individual goals.
Tahlia, Mentor
- As a source of many of her abilities, Rarlee had relied on her anger and rage to bolster her body and further her strength. However, this led to many situations that caused more trouble than they were worth. Tahlia saw this in Rarlee and took her under her wing to teach the kobold how to meditate and better control her emotions. From testing her convictions by pitting her against her hatred of slavers, to training her within the Great Gymnasium itself, Tahlia has become a core part of Rarlee's growth.

A Risen Paladin
During her training in the time after first encountering the Atropal, Rarlee became quite invested in slaying the undead that plagued the Lower Wards. Being informed by Barxire of a lab that often Necromancers did their experiments within, she set out to clear this infestation. While inside, Rarlee interrupted a ritual being cast to raise a paladin into undeath. The paladin called out to Tyr as such and retained the will he once had in life.
