Mara-kai is an Ice Genasi, native of the Paraelemental Plane of Ice, the city of Tiera Minuut specifically. She is an aspiring Believer of the Source, seeking to ascend the ladder to the Source through the mastery of hand-to-hand combat. She speaks very little to anyone. This, in addition to her dedication, makes her appear somewhat distant to other planeswalkers. As such, Mara-kai is something of a mystery.

Appearance

Bearing angular features, pale skin with a cold sheen, and piercing eyes, it is clear to those knowledgable of such things that Mara-kai is an Ice para-Genasi. She stands at 5"8, and usually dresses in garb which reflect her agile form, not dissimilar in appearance to a statue carved in ice. She seems to exhibit some of that stiffness at times, her movements becoming difficult and clumsy should such strike.

Clothing

Her usual garb comprises of loose-fitting kaftan trousers, blue in colour, and held up by a simple belt. Her shirt is cropped, tied back at the neck to hold back her breasts, supporting them through her energetic, acrobatic style of fighting. When she is not fighting, she wears a long white and blue robe, concealing most of her features.

Personality

Devoted

Mara-kai could be, not unfairly, judged to be selfish. She does not like to spend her time on matters that hold no means of improvement for her. Her dedication makes her somewhat inward-looking, though if she sees another planeswalker in dire need of assistance, she'll not leave them in that state, if possible. She is not so much bothered with gold, but if it is required to unlock more of her potential, she'll not turn it away. She can spend long days in quiet contemplation, believing that there is no use in constant work if there is no reflection upon its results. She also appreciates the space to breath and recover, for she knows that a blade too often struck by the iron will eventually crack.

Strengths
  1. Mara-kai is strong and excels in hand-to-hand combat.
  2. Mara-kai has fought against her kind's propensity for clumsiness (the iciness makes being dextrous much harder), though does occasionally freeze up.
  3. Mara-kai is wise and possesses excellent judgement.
  4. Mara-kai is of above average intelligence, and knows the Auran tongue.
  5. Mara-kai is very hardy, immune to both disease and poison.
Weaknesses
  1. Mara-kai is not very much of a 'people-person'. She can be blunt and harsh, and will speak her mind unless wisdom dictates such would be dangerous.
  2. Mara-kai is likely to put herself first in matters of danger, which may add to her selfish-looking image.
  3. Mara-kai will be made melancholy by failure, forgetting that all that can be done is our best. She expects too much of herself.

History

Birth... Rebirth?

Mara-kai, much to her chagrin, cannot recall any of her former lives. She presumes that this is because she has not achieved great enough focus. Born in Tiera Minnut, with an elemental being in her ancestry, she seized upon her existence as an Ice Genasi as a sign of greatness, knowing that only the greatest humans share union with elemental beings. Taking this to be a sign of her own potential, and spurred on by the desire to live fully that all Ice Genasi share, she learnt of the philosophy of the Believers of the Source, and at once believed this to be her true path.

Finding a Path

She found no weapon suited her, and while her intelligence is above average, she couldn't stick to the learning of magic. A single spell granted by her ancestry is all she can muster. In her frustration, she struck her fist against a wall - the ice that had formed upon it shattered like glass. A smile spread over Mara-kai's face. Her blood ran down her hand and she shivered, the sanguine liquid beginning to harden in the cold. Despite the blood, Mara-kai felt that with meditation, practice and focus, she would have mastery over hand-to-hand combat.

To Sigil

The Paraelemental Plane of Ice, however, is no forge, for it is cold and frozen in many places. Mara-kai sought a place where she could be tested and bent, and find many challenges. Glimpsing the many portals that are found in the city of Tiera Minuut, Mara-kai knew where she must go. To the City of Doors she went, the home of the Great Foundry itself.

Relations

  1. She sees great potential in Elira, and does her best to show encouragement with each improvement she notices. Her view of Elira is positive.
  2. She can also appreciate Eda's fighting style and efficiency, and holds a generally positive view of her.
  3. She thinks Nairna to be something of annoyance, who seems fixated on things of little importance when great potential is obviously there. This frustrates her, though she finds her tolerable in small does, particularly when she is more focused.
  4. Saevio is another curiosity. She admires his strength, though finds his lack of patience concerning, when it comes to matters of ascendancy.
  5. She has made several passing acquaintances with others, but needs to see more of them before she comes to a firm judgement.

Accomplishments

  1. She grows ever stronger in her path, though most of her accomplishments are personal and perhaps not immediately visible to others.
  2. Her focus has become so strong that she can hide at will, provided she remains still, in dire situations.

Goals

  1. To join the ranks of the Godsmen, and continue her ascent with their assistance.
  2. To face greater challenges and tests.
  3. To convince another to join the Godsmen.
  4. To recall past lives, should she have them.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas

  1. Mara-kai finds it difficult to turn away from new challenges, and if the lure is strong enough, her excellent judgement may not be enough to keep her from going into danger.
  2. Anything that may help her in her quest to climb the ladder to the Source.
  3. She wishes to recall her past lives, should she have them.
