The Basics

Appearance & Demeanor

Indithrael cuts a gaunt figure. His features blend the smoother shapes of the Chondathan people with the harsher angles found amongst the fair folk. Perhaps in cruel mockery of his attempts at appearing somewhat dignified in comportment, biology has conspired to grace him with an anemic complexion to compound his angular features. A firm, yet somewhat narrow jawline sets the foundation of his face, an aquiline nose setting its center. His thin lips appear ever drawn into a faint grimace, and his angular brows seem similarly weighted at their outer edges. Beneath his gentle brow lie eyes of deep blue that examine his environs by their near perpetual shifting. All this is framed by his mop of stringy hair, dark brown in coloration, which hangs limply about his head, typically covering the mildly pointed ears that further hint at his mixed heritage.

His typically simple attire is usually well-cared for, despite its generally being well-worn. Much of his daily clothing is made of rougher, more-durable fabrics and show the signs of heavy use. The colors of choice in his attire are deep browns and blues. His body is kept generally clean, save when adventuring, and his hair generally is left to hang loose, again with the exception of having it tied back for travel. His armor, when he chooses to wear it, is impeccably cared for, the leather well-oiled and thinned patches and sites of damage meticulously mended. Similarly, the weapons he carries when geared for adventure are maintained to a high standard of care.

Personality & Philosophy

Indithrael's general demeanor is a withdrawn one. He tends to speak softly, gesture subtly, and shy away from larger crowds. He is not aloof, however, willing to hold conversation with any who initiate it. His manner of speech is unobtrusive, preferring going unheard to speaking out, and his voice has a gravelly hoarseness to it as though words perhaps come with physical difficulty. The manner in which he carries himself varies from a regimented sort of rigid when still to something more akin to grace when in motion. In general company his mannerisms are to remain generally motionless and to allow others and himself a respectable area of personal space. In company he trends between wary and reserved, favoring an unobtrusive observation to hearty participation in the revels of adventuring companions. Indeed, it is not uncommon to find him more comfortable in his own company than that of others.

"I cannot say whose designs brought me here, only that it is here that I am."

Religion and spirituality play a large part in Indithrael's day to day. He oft mentions the workings of higher powers in discussions of his personal history, and he has a taste for discussing and learning of religious thought. He might be caught uttering a soft prayer before adventures or when out of the company of others. He favors working alongside others of deep faith, and is, at least ostensibly, respectful to the followers of most ethoses. Often, despite whether or not he has strong opinions regarding any situation, he will defer to the judgement of anyone he perceives as a spiritual superior. When asked of his faith he tends to be paradoxically guarded, less prone to a straight answer than something more circumlocutory.

Part and parcel of Indithrael's deep devotion is a somewhat sage attitude. He neither frets nor fears when things are beyond his capacity to affect. He is mortal, and as such he is limited. His aims are ever more simple things: guiding the lost, helping those in need; certainly preferring to leave matters of righting wrongs and dispensing justice to other sorts. Indithrael might come across as somewhat mercenary in that he outwardly espouses no cause of his own, but lends what assistance he can to those of others. Despite a decided proclivity for taking direction from others it seems he is remarkably selective as to whom he might allow the opportunity, and any criteria that might exist for his deliberations in that regard are anyone's guess.

Abilities and Skills

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Indithrael's strengths tend to lie beyond the realm of, well . . . strength. Rather, his are deft hands, a keen eye, and a quick mind. As such he tends to favor subtlety and efficiency. In most settings he can be noted to be both quiet and still. These qualities extend to his movements; his footfalls are light, and what gestures he makes are almost always small, gradual things carrying a simplistic grace to them. His words are soft and often simple, but his mind has an analytical bent, keen to both contemplation and reflection. Despite, or perhaps because of, all this Indithrael is neither particularly compelling nor magnetic.

Sometimes billing himself as a remover of obstacles, those who travel with him might find that he is comfortable with loosing locks and picking apart nasty devices that might impede their progress. His eyes and ears are rather keen, almost always surveying whatever environment he finds himself in - a habit that might be noted by companions and strangers alike. Those who see him in combat would note that he tends to keep his seemingly frail form away from the center of a scuffle. Instead he favors keeping a fair distance and placing projectiles, often bolts, in sensitive spots on his foes. This might frustrate more martial sorts, as incoming fire often navigates small spaces to reach the vital areas of his targets. When pressed to melee, he refrains from being still, again preferring to avoid blows and place surgical strikes with one of a number of blades about his person.

Languages: Somewhere along the course of his travels Indithrael has picked up a number of languages. Presumably owing to his mixed heritage he is fluent in the elven tongue, but he is also well versed in dwarven, sylvan, and the tongue of the hin.

History

The "Chant", To Use the Vernacular

Indithrael was born to an elven male and human female, both former adventurers. He was raised in the township of Highmoon in Deepingdale. He readily relates that his father died while he was a young boy and that his mother died several years after. After this time he relocated to Amn and recieved the remainder of his upbringing and education as her ward.

He relates his aunt being a giving woman, if a bit harsh. As her charge she saw to his continued education in matters of arithmetic, literature, and the various other aspects of academia. He rarely mentions such things, but it was while in her care that he also began to learn his way about a blade as well as many of the other skills he possesses at present.

He left his aunt's stewardship at age eighteen. In the time bridging that day and his arrival in Sigil he has worked many jobs: attendant, scribe, courier, and seeker to name a few. That he does not often give any chronology to when he held what positions suggests he may well have done all interchangably under the all-encompassing mantle of 'adventurer'.

The whole story is, understandably, more detailed than he is generally wont to share. ((And still in the process of being written.))

The Dark of It

"I have endured worse."

The raw viscera of Indithrael's past trend towards something more gritty. Despite perhaps having a picturesque making, his family was not destined to last the test of time. Though both mother and father had settled to start a family, his father, an elven archer of small renown across the Dales, could not content himself with a sedentary life. While Indithrael was still young his father took to adventuring again, and after one departure he never returned. His mother became despondent in the absence of her partner, her relationship with her son vacillating between overprotective and abusive. Come Indithrael's thirteenth year she too had passed.

At this juncture Indithrael became the ward of his aunt, who saw to his education and learning a trade. A well-off woman, her motives may have been less-than benign. She saw his propensity for going about his day unnoticed and decided to see him trained in the arts of subtlety and subterfuge as well. Mentoring the young man in these studies was a contact of his aunt, a member of the Shadow Thieves of Amn. The training was merciless, his mentor demanding little shy of perfection from his young student; versing him in breaking locks, escaping notice, and even claiming lives. All the while the young boy was indoctrinated into the worship of Shar. By sixteen he had begun active thievery for his aunt and her contacts. By eighteen he had been ordered to claim no fewer than two-dozen lives.

Before his eighteenth year had passed, however, this life was similarly rent asunder. His aunt's stead was raided by authorities. In her flight to safety with her more promising students she left Indithrael as a diversion of sorts. Having no real information about his person, but presuming him connected to their quarry, Indithrael was summarily arrested and detained. For two tenday he idled in a cell, his only visitor being an older woman who, after many hours and much coaxing, was able to learn of the incarcerated Indithrael's life. Eventually she took him into her custody.

This woman was a priestess of Selune. She presumably took pity on the misguided young man and afforded him an opportunity to show that he was remorseful for his past wrongs, a chance to attone for his evils. Over the years that followed she affected the repurposing of Indithrael to service of her goddess. For the first two years she kept Indithrael in her temple as she guided what she called his 'healing'. The result is the man that walks the realms (and planes) today: a devoted agent of his Lady. His work has ferreted out agents and machinations of the hands and feet of opposed faiths, saved and ended lives, and ultimately led to his arrival in Sigil.

Allegiances and Relationships

To be determined.

Kit

"There is something to be said for versatility."

Travelling Leathers - Bearing the halmark of Darkwater Cove's own Auvry Fletcher, this armor is a sturdy creation of cloth and worg hide that has been tailored and tweaked to match his personal styles.

Repeating Crossbow - This mechanical bolt-chucker is perhaps Indithrael's most favored possession at present. Not uncommonly sold by a certain goblinoid in the Great Bazaar, thus likely common about the bashers of Sigil who favor such weapons, it is not terribly impressive. Indithrael keeps the weapon remarkably well-tended to ensure functionality.

Apprentice Assassin's Mask - Perhaps the greatest mainstay of his current adventuring wear, Indithrael keeps a combination of facewrap, goggles, and hardened leather helmet for wear when about his work.

Ichthia's Neck Knife - Indithrael's main blade of choice bears the halmarks of the mage Ichthia, who is known among some planars and primes to be in the trade of blades for souls. Whether the weapon was obtained directly from the infamous creator or from a sod unfortunate enough to run afoul of Indithrael's bolts is up for grabs.

Sunsteel Ninjato- The latest and most distinct addition to Indithrael's collection of blades is stylized in the fashion of those of those used in lands where The Celestial Bureaucracy holds sway. This slender, straight blade is made of a glided metal and bears an edge that is viciously sharp
