"I'm not sure if you're incredibly clever or incredibly stupid. But one thing's for sure, Garrak. You have balls of brass to try a stunt like that." ~ Balthazar De'Medici to Garrak Ilosi Varaq'Bu.

Garrak Ilosi Varaq'Bu appears in his mid twenties and sports a grin which never fades even in defeat. He wishes for nothing more than to beat the acknowledgement and status of his forefathers.

He is known through his association with the more domineering of the outer-planes: those in the highest ranks of armies caught in never ending wars; those more audacious servants of the divine who sought to spread influences. And through these, for his ability to deliver magic of the old and forgotten to help the significant through their conquests.

Garrak can be seen drinking heavily or smoking relentlessly, he would claim, as a consequence of his brilliance.

Appearance and Presentation

Standing around 6'8", Garrak is taller than most. His hair is short, his skin is a purple shade of obsidian and his legs are jointed in a fiendish fashion. He appears with a fast, lean and powerful body that discovered luxury and leisure, keeping a consistent smell of ash and tobacco that is no doubt a mixture of his heritage and his habits. Despite his short horns, wide wings and flexible tail Garrak is regarded as having remarkably suppressed attributes for a Half-Fiend. With fangs so obscure he can hide them behind a grin, Garrak possesses a face that seems natural and perhaps even comely... but even if he does possess the physical qualities of a well-groomed tiefling Garrak has an ambience that betrays him. He has the aura of a fiend: It screams of the cunning beneath his compliments and the malice behind his smiles. It portrays his bright amber eyes as gateways of an empty soul. It warns of his magical origins and the danger a Half-Fiend may possess.

Garrak moves with both grace and power and always dresses in decorated outfits expensive either for their looks or their quality.

Background and History

It’s not really known how Garrak came to be, or why it is that he would have the heritage of demons. Some hypothesise that it was through greedy rituals of mortals while others speculate it was the wrathful ceremonies of the fiends.

While there is no doubt that Garrak had some part to play in the Lower Planes, it seems his history spreads further than any care to remember. Whoever he used to be, he now wanders the planes acquiring items of great renown and devastating use to distribute them to the entities that would grant him power for the trade.

Personality and Character

"He is an insufferable asshole who thinks himself better than everyone else and toys with them for the sake of his own amusement while taking no lasting value in any given person, and perhaps only things." ~ Visenya Theras expresses her opinion on Garrak.

The question of Garraks age has never been answered and it appears he does not know himself, but he can at least be considered old, possessing of a jaded world view that he defends with experience. To him, the multiverse is a game without rules or referee, played to win. He claims to respect those who truly understand and keep courage in the face of this. Garrak can be courteous and well-mannered and he can be generous, at least to his closest allies. He likes to play with etiquette, exercising its rules even in the presence of his enemies, which are numerous.

Whether Garrak succumbs to his fiendish heritage or is rather more accepting of his human blood might depend on who you ask... and when. It is quite clear he is a Cambion possessing of a fickle mood, presenting himself sometimes with a peculiar demeanour and an alien impracticality. And this is despite clearly being educated in the social mores of many races. He seems to prioritise business first, pleasure second, and then thirdly the rest of life.

So some may say Garrak is ruthless and calculating, possessing words that always try to manipulate, while others may call him careless with the temperament of a genie and few might even be convinced to believe that he is 'not as bad as people think'. Whatever their opinion, they may all agree that the foundations of who he is lies in the realms of chaos.

Notable Dealings

- In the markets of Sigil, this Cambion sold a Loumara while it hid in a blade to a buyer who was slain then and there by his own weapon. Since then, Garrak has been recognizable by the name Fiendseller, whom never returned for some time.

- This Cambion once tried to smuggle a Sphere of Annihilation through Carceri to destroy the chains of a titan's servant.

- For more than twenty years this Cambion was chased and hunted by the elven Paladin Pre’gas, who eventually cornered him on a god-isle in the Astral Plane. It’s said that Garrak outwitted the Paladin into releasing him.

- Having made a deal with the devils, this Cambion acquired his hound Zugoth at the cost of one elf soul.

- Claims made by some include sightings of Garrak with the 'Kingpin'.

The Hound Named Zugoth

"Yes, this is my hound - Zugoth. . . I wouldn't stare if I were you." ~ Garrak Ilosi Varaq'Bu to Eidothea.

If one has met Garrak then they surely know of Zugoth. Zugoth is the Cambion's loyal Hellhound and is said to have been by Garrak's side since he freed himself from the abyss. It is said that he was acquired for one elf soul.

As a Hellhound, Zugoth is not particularly pleasant to look at. Thin fur does a poor job of hiding the beasts bulky muscles and the hound possesses canine teeth that look especially savage. Zugoth looks ferocious. The most threatening quality is the hounds eyes, for they burn bright with hate and hellfire and never seem to blink. Garrak uses this to his advantage, particularly in meetings to make participants uncomfortable but also because Zugoth can communicate knowledge of subtleties that he himself couldn't possibly notice.

Despite the rugged, dangerous appearance Zugoth moves with a decided grace and is capable of playfulness that deceives expectations. How this Hellhound has reached the age it has is just another mystery.
