"With enough knowledge, everything is reducible"

The Dark

  • The man is said to be a shadow player, but who knows? Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.
  • Ask in the Hive, and you might get some dark about the man being related to the Bleakers, maybe? Long ago? Talk to them and... well, since when can you get a straight answer from that lot?
  • If someone remembers, or walks really into the deep of the Hive to ask, they might know that years ago at the time that guy was around, various murders occurred at the Hive. Nothing special, death in the Hive, you know. But those cases had the bodies of berks and bums convoluted in shadow, as if eaten away. Sometimes, even without their shadow.
  • Ask enough berks along Sigil, and you'll get people telling you that this persons seems a few people. Accounts of him coming from one way, and suddenly appearing from another place no gate nor alley leads too, and the cutters just shake their head in amazement.
  • Anyone who asks in Darkwater, will find out the guy is hated. Common talk of 'Shadow crap' is known there when he's mentioned.
  • Those old in the Darkwood, or that really remember, will know of an ancient wood just outside the camp. Where a series of wards is laid, and now awkwardly cut. They talk about dark howling in the night, something deeper than the wolves. And then one day that guy came with a few planewalkers, they say something about that tower island further down, and since then the howling stop. So that's a bonus point in his way, right? Nah, everyone still hates him.
  • Some people along the wards talk about the guy twisting light, carrying darkness with him. None much go around prodding him about it, if they do, they don't get much.
  • He seems to be all the time at that damn IX, playing that piano. If that thing is fucking haunted, how come it doesn't eat him up? The bobbers of the place might squeal at ya, if you pay enough or listen to their ramble.
  • He isn't around Sigil-proper much. Lots of talk saying that with the appearance of Nix, he spends more time around the Three Cities of the Shadow: Balefire, City of Onyx and Nix. How'd you find out that, though? Probably will need to feed jink some berk in the cities themselves. That'll cost ya.
  • Some say the man can lift things, move things, prod things, poke things, and smash things without utter a word of a spell, same as he does with ice, as if he can just make it appear from the air itself! Rubbish, shouting at you a teethless berk from the edge of the Hive, stop spreading shyte as Chant and Dark, he tells him, and you don't know what to believe. What kind of mage doesn't need to use his magic-words to make crap happen?
  • Chant talks about a skinny man in grey running into a house in the Lady's Ward just infront of that haunted gallery to save some poor kid from a laser-eyed bear. Not much is known, except for a lot of shouting in the Lady's Ward the dark of that cycle.
  • Open talk about a bloke named Thilidar prepping up some kind of 'New Aged Play' is talked about, looking for actors, musicians and dancers and the what and the not. If you ask me that's posh talk to get the jink-barers closer in range.
  • If you happen to go around Balefire, and get close enough to a few drunken Shadowcrafters. They'll tell of a new barmy instructor. How do they know he is? If you're any good in discarning drunk-talk, it has something to do with his boss and him hitting each other when they argue, but you didn't hear it from me, eh? Now be a dear and get me another round of ale.
  • Lots of talk about a man made of that shadows themselves running around Sigil-proper, offering help and flailing the air around him. Ask that Dark from anyone onlooker and they'll tell you sure enough the berk wants to get you nice and alone to eat you up, he ain't foolin' me!
  • Hungry hivers in the Gatehouse might confirm your suspicions if you ask around. First asking for some jink or food or drink. You'll probably have to drop a few to get them to nod as they munch or glare, talking about some dark bloke that's been helping around more in the place, fixing crap and grunting while he ceaselessly worked.

At First Glance

He's nothing special, grey, common, seems like you're average cutter. Hood, heavy clothing, metal pair of gauntlets. Hard to tell what he is into. Being grey?

What He Does

They say he might be a user of shadow, but that varies. Sometimes he does, sometimes he is completely off of it. Try to pry too much, you think the lightboys would rub you dry out of all your inquires, pricey bastards.
