Biography

Naberius was originally one of the many unnamed units of Kolyaruts produced in Mechanus with the duty of pursuing oath breakers. He himself doesn't know how long ago he has been made, but the several flaws and defects in his model, which he has been slowly upgrading himself, suggest that he is in fact very old.

When he was still an Inevitable, one of his designated targets had been an Outer Planar, in this particular case a Yugoloth, who had been able to break a Baatorian contract and keep the wrath of the Devils at bay. No matter how much this hinted at a powerful being however, as an unfeeling Machine with absolutely no free will the Inevitable Naberius managed to approach the being and tried to reason with it so the contract could be completed and he able to move to his next target. However, the Yugoloth had broken the contract without any intention of at any point fulfilling it and didn't feel threatened enough by the lone Kolyarut to simply give the Baatorians their due. The battle was inevitable. Naberius sustained critical damage and retreated to fight another day, but upon Planeshifting to a random location of Mechanus, ceased to function and became Inert.

The reason why Naberius doesn't know his age, is this period of oblivion. Inevitables who fail their task are seen as flawed and are not repaired. Instead, another Inevitable is forged with the flaw that lead to its predecessor's defeat corrected. So, for an indeterminate period of time he was simply a damaged unit, with no sentience, lost among the cogs of Mechanus found by Balthazar De'Medici only recently. The Wizard took interest in the decommissioned unit and tinkered with it.

Balthazar's tinkering with the native of Mechanus breath life back into the Kolyarut, but it was Kolyarut no longer. Perhaps it was due to the Wizard's prowess in Engineering, maybe because of the bit of Mechanus that was infused into the construct that at the time went unnoticed, but Naberius was now a Living Construct with free will and no programmed duty of chasing oath-breakers. This change however was rather drastic, the construct had no reason to employ his free will. It had no goals, no ambition, no personality. It was a blank slate stolen of its purpose. It was then that it decided to serve Balthazar, at least for the time being, as the need for a purpose overwhelmed the previous enforcer of Mechanus. It was also then, that he was given the name Naberius.

Skills

Naberius is a reasonably decent fighter, favoring the longsword and the large shield as would be expected for a previous Kolyarut. However, for the surprise of many, is also capable of casting Divine Magic by drawing power from the Plane of Order. He has shown to be able to learn and evolve in his own way, repairing flaws in his model when any are found and improving his prowess with the divine periodically.

Native to the Great Wheel, the construct has shown to know a fair bit about the Outer Planes, specifically about the planes of Chaos. Recently, the construct was seen to be able to resist the adverse effects of the planes very effectively, hinting that it had begun traveling down the path of the Planar Champion.

Behavior

At first Naberius behaved like an unfeeling robot. He followed orders without question and didn't show preference over anything or hinted at feeling anything. He has recently shown signs of change, starting to be able to feel both desires and being capable of empathy. The construct appears to be slowly developing its own humanity and become more man and less machine.

In speech, most of the time he seems to mention himself as "This Unit". However, when asked about his past as an Inevitable, he uses the words "I" to designate himself and talks about his "Previous Unit".

The construct remains as an enforcer of Order. He obeys the law without question and still sees the world very black and white. But such would be expected from a native of Mechanus. So far, he hasn't yet changed in this front.

Occasionally, the constructs behavior becomes rather erratic, almost silly. Balthazar has attributed these changes in behavior to a glitch caused by the constructs visit to Limbo, the plane of Chaos. One would think this makes sense, as the construct is a Native of Mechanus, the plane of Order.

The Naberius Misadventures Compilation

- Crushed by Maruts who had targeted him for escaping death

- Tried to organize (to no effect) the plane of Limbo only to be Tenderized by a Blue Slaad while he wasn't looking

- Got stuck in the mud of the Outlands Bog due to his immense weight

- Was critically damaged by crabs in the Inner Elemental Plane of Water
